Homicide detective Noah Bradley is hunting down a serial killer who leaves a trail of bodies... bodies of women he knows. Shelly Tanner is tired of being scared, living life in fear. When she gets a flat tire two strange men approach. She pulls her gun on them, and all hell breaks loose.
So Tammy, when did you begin writing with the intent to be published? What sparked the author inside you to finally write?
Well, I have always written. It’s a passion that grows stronger everyday and keeps me up most nights. I swear I will leave my bed when an idea comes to mind. Don’t want to forget anything. LOL, My husband reminds me when we go somewhere to bring a notepad and pen. How funny…
What completed works do you have? Describe them.
Not a- one. LOL. Yet. My first MS is in the process and just over half-way finished. I love a good murder/mystery. I like to laugh, cry and root for the under-dog and of course there has to be love. These are all traits I hope to impart in my novels.
What avenues did you travel to get your MS to the stage it is currently? Crit groups, classes, research, writing communities where you live?
I would be no where if not for my crit partners. They have helped me to learn more about the writing process than I could have ever learned on my own.
What inspires your characters? What breathes life into your work?
Believe it or not, I work from the title, to characters, to the meat of the story. LOL. Backwards I know, but there ya go. As to the last part of the question, I hope I’m what breathes “life” into my work. The ideas and characters fill my mind, but if I can’t get them to paper the way they want, well, then there wouldn’t be a story.
What is a normal day like for you, tell us how you get all that murder, I mean writing in?
Wow, this one is easy. I sit and write and write and write, breaking only when my husband is in need of food and we’ll leave it at that. LOL. Now, if you’d have ask me this a month ago I would have been, well, I would not have been able to answer. At that time I had grown children (2) still living at home along with my grandchildren (4). Six extra bodies, four under the age of five. Can you say mad-house? LOL.
What is a genre that you would more than likely never tackle, why?
That would be a toss-up between historical and paranormals. Historical, while I applaud the authors who do write the genre, I’m not much for the in-depth research. I do like to read it though. Paranormal, well, that genre just takes a very wild, vivid imagination. I love it but it would be awhile before I’d tackle that one. LOL.
What stage of getting published are you in, first draft, editing, querying, etc.? How has that experience been?
I’m only in the first draft phase, though I do edit as I go along. Actually, I get lost in edits sometimes. Okay, most of the time. LOL My crit partners are always asking when the new stuff is coming and I keep saying “As soon as I fix…”
Another book of course…and another and another. LOL
I’ll have to pass on this one, remember I’m just getting started…
You are a sandwich, describe yourself on a menu.
Walk into a sub-way and pick a foot-long, honey-oat, sub-way club. Fill it with lettuce, tomato, black olives and cucumbers. Add a little mayo and some red wine vinaigrette. Chips are optional…
If you could be a superhero, what would your name and power be?
Invisibility at will!!! As for a name, I just don’t know. LOL. *Charli thinks....The Disappearing Scribe...How funny… Sissy Russell. What a name. It’s actually kind of good. LOL.
Thanks for joining us Tammy. Keep us posted on Monster Mine.
Thanks for joining us, Tammy! I have to ask - bear with me, I'm from Canada eh - do you infuse southern aspects into your story?
ReplyDeleteNot easy to tell yourself 'it's as good as it's gonna get'. It's something I need to let go too. Nice to get to know you Tammy!
ReplyDeleteAnneN
Thank you for having me! How exciting, my name in bold print. Ahh... the dream. To answer your question, AJ, yeah, I guess I do. At least in dialog and setting. I love the country and who could resist a good'ol southern boy?
ReplyDeleteAnne,
ReplyDeleteI am my own worst obsticle. LOL Am I asking to much that I want to be able to read my novel as a reader would and get lost in the story???
I was tempted to comment on every single one of Tammy's answers as her crit partner. I AM WAITING LASSIE FOR MORE MM????? Erm, HULLO!!!
ReplyDeleteLOL Ah, Charli, ye has so little patience!
ReplyDeleteNah. Not me. Tammy, I love how your hubby reminds you to take a pen and notepad out. Very awesome to have support, aye?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, Charli. He doesn't understand it and he's not a reader but he tells me if writing makes me happy then thats all that matters...
ReplyDeleteHey, Tammy, it's awesome to get to know you outside of the walls of the group! I love your stripper name...I was thinking about the name "Sissy" just the other day, wondering how it came to be...lol.
ReplyDeleteHey, Megan. Thank you for coming to see my first interview. LOL Stripper names, how funny, right? Only Charli and AJ. LOL They did a good job, didn't they?
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I saw the pic of the guy on the couch, with the arm sticking out, I thought... This is so Tammy. Her poor hubby and all those dead bodies taking up space!
ReplyDeleteShe'd have more room if she hunkered down and banged out MM like a good girl.
Legbreakers may be on their way to Tennessee!
Megan is up next for Saturday! Woot woot!
Right on, Megan... Can't wait. And I have been a good girl. LOL
ReplyDeleteSuper excited to have Megan on Saturday! Woot!
ReplyDeleteTammy - Congratulations on a great first interview! And love the MS name.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mika. It was a lot of fun. I am real partial to the title too but I'm afraid if and when it gets picked up they will change it. Monster Mine isn't a typical title. LOL We will see.
ReplyDeleteIt will stay MM because it is different, and because I said so. When the time comes to negotiate your deal, I will be your muscle.
